From the Department of Carry On-Movie style Names
It transpires that Air Chief Marshall Sir Graham Eric Stirrup GCB AFC etc etc, the British Chief of Defence Staff likes to go by the nickname Jock. Yes, the UK Defence Chief is called Sir Jock Stirrup.

um, (from what we know of British humour) don't you think that it's precisely because he has a last name of Stirrup that he has a nickname of Jock?
Yea, of course. What I find amazing is that Sir Jock and the MoD embrace the use of his nickname. I mean, even the official MoD website calls him Sir Jock Stirrup, for Nuggan's sake!
